Online Education For Your Future

By Expert Author: Aurel Radulescu

Many traditional colleges and universities are now offering online courses, which are the exact same as those taught on campus, to distance learners. Online education is generally taught in one of several ways, including satellite feeds via the internet, correspondence or online reading lessons. This approach allows students to obtain a degree without ever setting foot into the classroom. An online education, assuming that it is from a regionally accredited college or university, is widely accepted as suitable training for any job in the related field of study.
Online education is convenient in many ways, but some students overlook the fact that it is much more affordable than a campus degree program. Why? Because of student housing and meal costs, which can range from $6,000 and up every year. With online education, students only pay for the courses that they are taken and they can often do so on a per credit hour basis.
The type of online education program that everyone should avoid is what is known as a 'diploma mill.' In exchange for a fee, which is usually up to $900.00, they will issue a degree for assessed life experience. These facilities often have a very professional website and appear to be legitimate. In fact, they even assure potential customers that they are issuing legal degrees. Upon further inspection of these websites, potential students will see that they can order a transcript with any grade point average of their choice. But for what? No classes were attended and no valid grades were issued, so how is it that these supposed legal degrees are actually legal? If any website claims to issue life experience degrees without an extensive review of the student's background or some type of test being issued, consumers should be very cautious before handing over big bucks for a potentially phony degree.
The only valid way to obtain life experience credit is to take the CLEP, or similar, test for college admission. This test is designed to see how much the student knows about a particular subject and to determine whether or not he/she knows enough to skip over the relating course in exchange for college credit. In addition, some regional universities offer portfolio assessments, which allows educators to review a personally-written portfolio from the student explaining why he/she is knowledgeable about a particular subject and why he/she should receive life experience credit. These are legitimate ways to earn life experience, or knowledge-based, college credit.

Get Ahead With An Online Education

By: Emma Fernton

Taking some online courses or getting an online degree is a great opportunity for many people who don't have access to a university or college campus. Even just a few years ago getting an online education was unheard of and only a few no-name educational institutions offered this as an option. Today however, more and more institutions are offering a variety of classes online and you can even get a degree.
Online education opens vistas that were unavailable. It allows people to take courses in their own time while continuing with their jobs, it allows people to upgrade their existing skills, or perhaps change careers completely. Those who are unable to go back to school full time can still pursue their dreams while working and continuing to pay the bills of everyday life. Not everyone can quit a job for school as student loans are not easy to obtain and they do not cover enough of the costs associated with a quality education.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, online education is the perfect solution to your problem. You can keep your job and use your off hours to go online. Sacrificing week-ends and some of your leisure time during the week might take you to a whole new career.
People who live in rural areas are also good candidates for getting an online education. If you live in an area where there is no university or college campus nearby it used to be your only option was to pack up and move. For some people this just wasn't an option. If your spouse already has a good job and your kids are settled in school, furthering your education took a backseat to other priorities. But now you can get that degree you've always wanted without leaving the comfort of your own home.
Most schools offering online classes don't care where you live, as they just need to send the materials to you. In some cases you may have to travel to take your finals, but everything else is done at home.
A fact to be considered is that online courses are NOT easier than classes taken in a traditional classroom setting. Therefore, before you embark on this path, you should think about how much time you will be able to spare for your homework. These courses take as long and as much effort as a regular course.
Most online classes will give you an idea of how much time is required before you start. Make sure that you can devote at the very minimum the suggested amount. It is quite possible that it will take you more. Also, you should ensure that you are disciplined enough to sit down and do some course work almost every day. It is very easy to get into the habit of putting things off until tomorrow if you don't have set deadlines.
Online education is great for those who can manage their time well. Many courses have advisors on call who can be contacted when ever in a bind and for clarifications. It is better to check your suitability for a course by taking on a few classes and shorter courses before signing up for a long duration degree course. If you can manage your time well, can lead a disciplined schedule, can finish the work in a timely manner, then the path of online education is meant just for you.

A New Age In Nursing Education: College Degrees Online

By: Tabatha Evans

It can be difficult for anyone who works to obtain a college degree or to increase upon their current level of education. This can be especially difficult for those people who are pursing a degree in a nursing field. The attempt to juggle work, classes, family and clinical hours can be overwhelming and discouraging. Advances in technology have now made it a little easier to obtain your degree and reach your goals.
Numerous colleges now offer degrees online, including nursing degrees. The advantages of taking nursing courses over the internet are numerous. With online courses a student can continue to work while attending college, without having to adjust a work schedule around a class schedule. Students no longer have to commute to a campus only to waste more time searching for a place to park. No more paying for a parking permit to park on the campus that you are paying to attend. No more sitting in a classroom for hours each day only to listen to an instructor lecture on the topics that you have already read about. Imagine being able to log onto your class when it's convenient for you. These are just a few benefits of obtaining your degree online.
Online nursing courses are not as difficult as one may think. Once classes begin the student will log into their internet classroom. Most college sites will have a list of courses that you are registered in. Clicking on the course name will take you to more information about that particular course. You can locate your syllabus, assignment schedule, contact info for your instructor and classmates, forums and chat rooms to talk to other students, and detailed instructions on how to submit assignments and complete your course. Help is always available from either the instructor or other classmates.
Online college students qualify for the same financial aid as the traditional campus based student. Federal Student Aid, State Student Aid, student loans, scholarships, and grants are all available for application. Federal and State Aid have financial requirements for qualification, but anyone, regardless of income or credit history, qualifies for student loans. Make sure you apply by the due dates for student aid so you don't miss any assistance you might qualify for.
People who are already working in the medical field as a nurses aid, LPN or RN who would like to increase their education and certification usually have even more advantages available to help them succeed. Many healthcare employers now provide tuition reimbursement and/or scholarships to employees who want to expand their education. If you can't afford to pay the tuition and await the reimbursement then consider a student loan than you can repay once you receive your tuition. Contact your human resource department to find out what is available. Another advantage is that many hospitals have set up study groups for online nursing students. This provides nursing students with the advantage of personal interaction with other nursing students of varying education.
To obtain a nursing degree, you may be required to complete clinical hours within a medical and/or hospital setting. You may wonder how you can do this if the college you are taking online courses through is across the country from where you reside. Your instructors will help you set up these clinical hours at a medical facility near your home.
The demand for nurses has risen dramatically and shortages in the nursing field continue to be a problem. With the advent of online nursing classes, more people are able to obtain their degree and provide much needed medical care to the people of your community.

How To Study For An Online Degree

By: Martin Wilson

It is a well-known fact that online degrees are not for everyone. It takes some staying power to make a dedicated student. Placing your future firmly in your own hands can be a risk, especially if you are not fully aware of what it entails. However, a little research can enlighten you, but it can also make the prospect of studying alone even more daunting than it seemed before.
You will need to fully aware of what is involved so don't neglect to research the project thoroughly before committing yourself, and if you decide to go ahead here are some guidelines that could stop you from getting lost along the way. Everyone who seeks knowledge needs patience as it isn't always easy to take in what we have to learn. Because it doesn't always come naturally patience has to be acquired if you are going to travel along the road that leads to an online degree.
Every academic needs a great deal of patience because knowledge doesn't come easily to a lot of us. It has to be worked at by any student and even more so by those who choose to expand their education online. What if you cannot find the one text you need to complete an assignment? In a library, you can trawl through the shelves in search, but after a couple of hours searching online I guarantee that you will almost certainly want to give up.
It can create the urge to give up, have an easier life, and it is then that patience is required. It will also be needed when you find that it takes longer to absorb the knowledge expected of you, than it does for college based students who have libraries to make use of and tutors to turn to. For you it will be a matter of going it alone with no-one to turn to in a crisis.
You must be able to motivate yourself enough to work of your own accord. There will be nobody watching over your shoulder or reminding you of upcoming deadlines. You will have to remember them and work towards your degree or qualification in your own time. There is no questioning it. That is the way it will be, so what happens if something comes up and you are a few days behind schedule? Do you just give up, or do you push on regardless?
Be sure before you embark upon it that to possess an online degree is your goal. That you are geared up to what will be required of you and will stay the course no matter what it demands of you. One thing that will help you towards that end is being organised. It might seem a trivial requirement but it is not. For an online student it is a must.
It is essential that the online degree student is organised. If you are not then you are likely to forget deadlines, lose information and may never actually complete your degree. This level of organization is imperative for online students because you will have to be able to arrange your education to fit in with the rest of your life.
Lastly you must never allow yourself to be sidetracked from your determination to gain an online degree. Soldier on through thick and thin until that never to be forgotten day when you reap the reward that you have worked so hard for. There will never be a satisfaction to equal it, and when you look back on the time when you were studying for an online degree you will remember how you learnt patience, determination, and organisation at the same time. Without those sort of qualities you might never have realised your dream.

The Modern Way To Improve Your Education - Online

By: Emma Fernton

The path ahead, as many studies and surveys have brought out, is taking some online courses or getting an online degree. This opportunity that has rapidly evolved in the recent years allows many of us who do not have access to university or college campus to get ahead and obtain an education. Today, more and more institutions are offering a variety of classes online and you can choose between a certificate, a diploma or a degree.
The individuals who need to continue to work can do so and yet obtain online education. They can get online and do their course work whenever they have the time to spare. To get ahead and quality education, sparing a few hours each evening and on the weekends is not much to ask, especially when it places you on the fast track to a new career.
Online education is tailor made for people who live in rural areas where accessibility to a university or college campus is poor. While hitherto, the option used to be to pack up and move for studies - now it is not so. Many could not move owing to already settled lives and families. Thus education and dreams took a back seat. These dreams can now be turned into reality and now you can get that degree you've always wanted without leaving the comfort of your own home.
With most online education classes, you sign up to whatever institution you would like to attend, no matter where it is, and they send you all the material you will need. Depending on the course layout you may need to go to certain place to write the final exam, but the rest of the course work can be done at home.
Before you consider taking any online classes, you should think about how much time you will have to spend on your homework. Some people are under the mistaken impression that online courses are easier and take less time than classes taken in a traditional classroom setting. However, this is often not the case.
Generally speaking, the schools will tell you how much time you'll need for study when you sign up for online classes. Before you enroll, be sure you have that amount of time to devote to your studies. In fact, it may even take you longer than the estimated minimum. Another important factor is self-discipline. If you procrastinate when you're an online student, you could quickly lose control of your time and endanger your grades and learning.
If you are good at managing your time, an online education should be easy for you. Many classes offer advisors that you can email if you are having problems or have any questions. If you are unsure if an online education is for you, maybe try one of two classes before signing up for a degree program. If you find that you can finish the work in a timely manner, you could have that degree and new career you've always wanted in no time.

How To Study For An Online Degree

By: Chris Tilden

It's a fact that a degree from a quality higher education institution, be it online or off-line can radically increase one's earning power throughout the course of a life. The potential may be hard to believe: statistics indicate that a higher education degree can increase one's earning power by several hundred thousand dollars over the course of a lifetime. With this awareness, one can see why access to a quality online degree program can significantly alter the future.
It is clear that there is a correlation between earning power and education. Individuals who possess a high school diploma or GED can make, on average, twice as much as those who have not completed any education at the high school level. However, for those who possess a college degree, they will find themselves earning (on average) twice as much as their peers with only a high school diploma or GED. Obviously, a degree, be it an offline or online college degree can radically change the direction of one's life.
The advantages of a degree can be summarized very succinctly: People who invest in a college degree for themselves, be it online or off-line, will make much more money over the course of their lives as their counterparts.
It is clear that there is value in obtaining a degree. And with today's access to the internet via home computers, the ease and simplicity of obtaining a degree from an online educational institution makes this a viable alternative for many.
In today's brave new world of online cyber-world classrooms, admission criteria are not an impediment for the potential student. Likewise, costs are greatly reduced for the student since online educational programs do not have to maintain the overhead that traditional programs must maintain. Also, students can pursue their online educational programs at their own pace.
There are no requirements for the amount of credit hours that must be signed up for in any given time period.
There are differences and similarities between online and off-line colleges and universities. In many respects the curriculum can be very similar. And it is clear, that a diploma from either type of institution can enhance earning power.
It is quite possible for students to obtain federal financial aid at certain online colleges. Scholarships and other financial aid may also be offered for students attending online college classes.
However, here is the rub: Not all online colleges and universities are created equal.
Some are nothing but diploma mills and scams; the diplomas that they issue are probably worth less than the paper they are printed on. These bogus degrees will not open the doors that lead to better jobs and bigger opportunities.
Such sinister "educational programs" only serve to hurt those who do not thoroughly investigate before making a commitment to an educational path.
However, one can very easily protect him or herself from such scam operations by finding out a very simple bit of information. Is the online educational program accredited? Quality online degree programs are always accredited by an accrediting agency.
Just as there are colleges and universities in the real world that do not possess accreditation, so there are online colleges and universities in the internet world that do not possess this standard of quality. But good educational programs, either offline or online, will possess and provide accreditation information from outside reviewing resources.
Clearly, online degree programs are viable alternatives for people seeking the advantages of higher education. Quality online degree programs are accredited like their off-line counterparts and the education from an online program can be obtained at a fraction of the cost of a traditional program. Online degree programs are easily accessible, providing ready access to many with busy schedules. With all of these advantages, it is understandable why more and more people are seeking the online route to pursuing higher education.
